Steamboat’s Bike Park Opens June 13th

There’s something special about that first lift ride of the summer: The buzz in the gondola, the dirt under your tires, and the wide-open trails calling your name. We’ve been counting down the days, and it’s finally here: Steamboat’s Bike Park opens for the summer on June 13!

Whether you’re a passionate biker or just in it for the views, this place delivers. With more than 50 miles of trails and lift access via the Wild Blue Gondola and Christie Peak Express, you can get in laps without the uphill grind (unless you’re into that sort of thing).

Steamboat Bike Park has earned its spot among the top mountain bike destinations in the country, consistently praised for its variety, flow, and stunning alpine scenery. Opened in 2011, the park has grown into a favorite for both seasoned riders and newcomers alike. Locals often head straight for “Rustler’s Ridge” or “Tenderfoot” to warm up before tackling the more technical challenges like “Rawhide” or “Buckin’ Bronc.” For those just starting out, beginner-friendly trails such as “EZ Rider” offer a gentle introduction to lift-served riding, while experts can test their skills on steep descents and jump lines designed to push limits. Whether you’re chasing airtime or soaking in the views, Steamboat delivers.

Big shoutout to RCR’s trail-building team, who’ve been working hard to create and maintain a top-tier trail system. Their work makes it possible for all of us to enjoy some of the best riding in Colorado. With several trail building events on the horizon, the mountain biking will continue to get better and better!

If you don’t have a bike or you’re new to the sport, check out our recent blog on RCR’s Bike Match Program. It’s helping connect locals with bikes and build a stronger riding community in the Yampa Valley. It’s about more than gear, it’s about opportunity, connection, and fun.

Not a Biker? Here’s What Else You Can Do on the Mountain:

  • 🥾 Hike scenic alpine trails – Most are snow-free and offer incredible views of the valley. Great for families or a solo recharge.

  • 🌅 Sunset Happy Hour – Ride the gondola to the top, grab a drink, and take in those golden hour views from above town.

  • 🍔 Grab a bite at the base – Stop by Timber & Torch or other base area spots for burgers, beers, or a mid-adventure snack.

  • 🚡 Gondola rides for non-riders – Perfect for folks who want the views without the bike (or sweat).

There’s nothing like Steamboat in the summer, especially when the mountain comes alive with bikes, music, and that unmistakable energy in the air. So whether you’re chasing PRs down Rawhide or just strolling with a cold drink at Sunset Happy Hour, we’ll see you out there.
