The New Year is Finally Here!
With the start of 2022, we begin to set our intentions and goals for the new year. Holiday gatherings with family, friends and loved ones were memorable and fun, especially since last year was strange and different and we may not have all been able to connect. We really cherished the hugs and dinners and drinks with our families this year. Here in Steamboat, we are getting up on the mountain and enjoying all of the recent snow! We have been gearing up the kids and ourselves for some outdoor fun and much-needed leg stretching and taking in the fresh Rocky Mountain air. It looks to be a rocking 2022 ski season which has us all over the moon with excitement. We hope to see you on the slopes and share some turns with you soon!
The Bud Light Cowboy Downhill Returns January 17, 2022
Mark your calendars for Monday, January 17, 2022 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day) as the Cowboy Downhill returns to the slopes of the Steamboat Ski Area for a 47th year!
Ever wanted to watch 100 of the best professional rodeo cowboys and cowgirls skiing down the slopes in their full-on cowperson attire? Well, free beer to all cowperson participants starts the race off on the right foot and it literally is all downhill from there. This race is a true Steamboat tradition and its events like these that make Steamboat unique. Did we mention that the cowboys and cowgirls also get free beer after the race as well? It is sponsored by Bud Light after all!
The Cowboy Downhill represents fun, excitement, and danger all from the comfort of your ski boots as you enjoy your front-row seat at the base of the mountain. Wanna see what else is going on this month? Here are some more great things going on in our community for the start of the new year.

First Friday Artwalk
Recurring monthly on First Friday Downtown Steamboat
Free self-guided tour of local art galleries, museums, and alternative venues in downtown Steamboat Springs.
These businesses remain open the first Friday of every month for this favorite event of locals and visitors alike. Many offer changing exhibits, so there is something new to see each month. Free to the public, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Refreshments are served.

Kids Learn and Play Pickleball
Recurring weekly on Saturday until January 29, 2022
Steamboat Tennis and Pickleball Center
Pickleball Kids Learn & Play. 4-weeks of fun, friendship, fitness, and Pickleball. Kids learn to play the basics of this fast-growing sport, through fun games, play, and instructions. Sign up in advance, $48 per session, 3 – 4 PM
Winter Sojourn
Date: January 22, 2022
Strings Music Festival
Winter Sojourn is a special edition of Literary Sojourn – a celebration of authors and readers designed to bring book lovers together again after the pandemic pause. In the spirit of Bud Werner library’s mothership Sojourn event, Winter Sojourn features presentations by four nationally and internationally acclaimed authors who will individually talk about their inspiration for the stories and characters in their published works. Tickets are $45 each.
Ski Free Sundays at Howelsen Hil
Recurring weekly on Sunday until April 3, 2022
Howelsen Hill Ski Area
Ski for free every Sunday at historic Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs. Ski the same trails as Steamboat Olympians just steps from downtown. It’s as easy as simply stopping into the lodge to pick up your free ticket, which is required to access the ski lifts and the Nordic trails on these special Ski Free Sundays.
