The Beginning of the Holiday Season has arrived!
With the start of November, we begin the holiday dance into the season of family, friends, and loved ones joining us for our special and sacred gatherings. And since last year was strange and different and we may not have all been able to connect, we are hoping for hugs and dinners and drinks with our families this year. Here in Steamboat, we are looking forward to opening day, now only 15 days away on November 20th! We have been gearing up the kids and ourselves for some outdoor fun and much-needed leg stretching and taking in the fresh Rocky Mountain air. The leaves have fallen, but our anticipation for the holiday season and the beginning of what looks to be rocking 2021/22 ski season has us all over the moon with excitement. We hope to see you on the slopes and share some turns with you soon!
Anonymous donor returns with $6M donation for the housing authority to purchase 11 acres on Steamboat’s south side
The same anonymous donor responsible for funding the Yampa Valley Housing Authority’s purchase of the Brown Ranch this summer has returned with another contribution.
With a $6 million donation, the housing authority’s board of directors voted unanimously at a special meeting Friday morning to purchase 11 acres of property on the south side of Steamboat, one that could feature around 200 affordable or workforce housing units.
“(We’re) working with donors to find interim opportunities to deliver units that help bridge the gap between today and when the Brown Ranch is fully operational and starts delivering units,” said Jason Peasley, executive director of the housing authority.
The property is located immediately south of the commercial complex that houses Young Tracks Preschool & Child Care Center and UCHealth Urgent Care Clinic, abutting the Yampa River Core Trail. The most recent attempt to develop the parcel — known over the years as Steamboat Crossings South, City South, and Valley Business Center — was in 2015 by an Australian-based developer, who submitted plans to the city for a 180-unit condominium complex. Despite being approved by the city, that project failed to move forward.

These businesses remain open the first Friday of every month for this favorite event of locals and visitors alike. Many offer changing exhibits, so there is something new to see each month. Free to the public, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Refreshments are served.

Don’t miss the 27th Annual Festival of Trees from Nov. 12 – Nov. 27 at the Tread of Pioneers Museum. Yampa Valley Bank and Steamboat Ace Hardware are once again showing their devotion to the museum and our heritage by generously underwriting all of the costs for this fundraising event.
This family-focused, pre-holiday tradition transforms the museum into a sparkling forest of holiday trees uniquely decorated by creative local organizations, businesses, and individuals. The Festival is the museum’s primary fundraising event, and proceeds support museum preservation and educational activities.
